Lighting Designer (LD)

Role Description

The Lighting Designer works with our sales team to create original stage and set lighting designs for entertainment and corporate events. The ideal designer will understand stage lighting, stylistic and architectural components of stage and set design, and execute those concepts into set design drawings and realistic renderings. The LD works in conjunction with audio, video, power, and other departments to design and operate lighting systems for live events. A knowledge of corporate events, concerts, and staging is crucial. The LD works with the Technical Director (TD) or the Production Manager on the production schedule and is involved with load-in, rigging, rehearsals, show, and load-out.


  • Assist Sales Managers in the creation of original stage and set designs in response to the needs of our clients, based on budgetary guidelines and accepted technical standards
  • Assist Sales Managers in fulfillment of RFPs and entertainment riders
  • Update working design drawings and renderings as needed
  • Provide final drawings, including weight per point calculations, to venue and local Fire Marshall
  • Integrate and coordinate project and event requirements with clients, venues, and other departments, including audio, video, lighting, rigging, power, labor and shipping schedules as required
  • Create lighting plans and equipment Pull Sheets within inventory control software (FLEX)
  • Prepare equipment for shows
  • Set up, operate, and strike lighting equipment on the show site
  • Maintain a safe, organized, clean, and neat work environment
  • Coordinate special projects, including research and recommendations for purchase of specialty related items for show applications
  • Assume additional duties as needed

Skill Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in corporate and/or touring design, coordination, and management
  • Hands-on programming and operation experience in modern moving light consoles and fixtures in a live production environment. (i.e. GrandMA, Hog, Martin, High End, or equivalent)
  • Advanced comprehension of electrical power as it relates to show lighting
  • Advanced comprehension of rigging principles
  • Strong knowledge of Vectorworks 2020 or newer, experience in Cinema 4D
  • Knowledge of Lightwright and Disguise 3D preferred
  • Knowledge of 3-Point lighting design for IMAG
  • Computer literacy (Windows & MacOS) and basic networking knowledge
  • Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft, and Google suites
  • Creative originality, planning, and problem solving
  • Technical communication, Project management, and organization skills
  • Interpersonal skills such as professionalism, customer relations, and diplomacy
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and provide a respectful and positive work environment

  • Ability to operate scissor lift and forklift preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift, carry, move, and place up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment into trucks
